Ingredients
1 cup of sourdough starter (active and bubbly)
1 cup of all-purpose flour
1/2 cup of sugar
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon of salt
2 large apples, peeled, cored, and diced
2 large eggs
Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, mix the sourdough starter, flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
2. Add the diced apples to the mixture and stir until they are evenly coated.
3. In another bowl, beat the eggs and then fold them into the batter until just incorporated.
4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot over medium heat (about 350°F or 175°C).
5. Using a spoon or cookie scoop, drop batter into the hot oil in small batches (about 2-3 fritters at a time).
6. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
7. Remove fritters from oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
8. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
Make sure your sourdough starter is active for best results. You can also add chopped nuts or raisins for added texture.
