Ingredients
2 cups of all-purpose flour
1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) of instant yeast
1 cup of warm water (110°F/45°C)
1 tsp of sugar
1 tsp of salt
2 tbsp of olive oil
1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
1 egg (for egg wash)
Fresh parsley or basil for garnish
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
2. Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
6. Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a triangle shape on parchment paper.
7. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the dough, then cut slits along the sides to create ‘branches’ of the tree.
8. Fold the branches over the cheese filling to create the tree shape.
9. Brush with egg wash and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
10. Garnish with fresh herbs before serving.
